The Certificate in Business Analysis QQI Level 8 is for all those who wish to advance and certify their skills in this important and growing area.

This programme:

  • Is jointly developed by the National College of Ireland in partnership with the Business Analysts Association of Ireland
  • Focuses on improving enterprise performance through the use of proven business analysis techniques
  • Leads to a professional certification in Business Analysis at QQI Level 8

Business and systems analysts, internal and external consultants and advisors, managers, team leaders and members of improvement teams can all benefit from applying key business analysis techniques in their roles.

The Certificate in Business Analysis programme aims to provides participants with:

  • A specialised knowledge in analysing the core business objectives and strategy of an organisation or strategic business unit
  • An ability to analyse the processes, procedures, systems and structures that are in place – and to evaluate their effectiveness and efficiency
  • A comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of change – and how to harness the positive energy needed to bring about successful change
  • An understanding of the various types and styles of consultancy intervention and their effectiveness in various situations
  • The skills necessary to be able to communicate and negotiate effectively with stakeholders within and outside of an organisation.

Applicants for the programme will be assessed based on relevant experience by the Business Analysts Association of Ireland.

Applicants from other areas will be expected to have a primary level 7 degree or proven work experience in the area.

On completion of the entire programme successful participants will be awarded a QQI Level 8 Certificate in Business Analysis.

Module 1 – Management of Change

This first Module of the Certificate in Business Analysis programme covers the following topics:

  • The Context and Meaning of Change
  • Organisations and their Changing Environment
  • The Nature of Organisational Change
  • Organisational Structure and Change
  • Organisational Culture
  • The Politics of Change
  • The Leadership of Cchange

Module 2 – Business Systems Analysis

This second Module of the Certificate in Business Analysis programme covers the following topics:

  • Introduction to Business Systems Analysis
  • Understanding Business Processes
  • Business Process Improvement Methodologies
  • Measuring and Improving Quality
  • Measuring and Improving Productivity
  • Improving Processing Capability
  • Operational Analysis – Risk and Control
  • Problem Analysis and Decision Making Techniques

Module 3 – Consultancy and Communication Skills

This third Module of the Certificate in Business Analysis programme covers the following topics:

  • Consultancy Types
  • Identifying opportunities
  • Consultancy Cycle
  • Facilitation Skills
  • Negotiation and Influencing Skills
  • Conflict Resolution Skills
  • Presentation Skills
  • Report Writing Skills

Where, when and how much?

The programme is shared between two locations: the Irish Computer Society, 87/89 Pembroke Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 and at The National College of Ireland, IFSC Centre, Dublin 1. It is of six months duration and consists of two full-day lectures per month together with case study analyses and project work.

Lectures run from 9am to 5.00 pm each day. Courses commence in Spring and Autumn of each year.

The individual fee for the course is €3,300, payable at time of booking. The fee covers lecture fees, course material, assessment and accreditation, Lunch is not provided.

The course fee also includes six months of post-completion email support to assist graduates in the practical implementation of skills and techniques learnt on the course.
