For the candidate:
Equalskills is designed for candidates to actively learn
about computers at their own pace, under the direction of
a facilitator, using customised learning materials.
These learning materials consist of a workbook, on-line
web based exercises, and an optional multi-media computer-based
training programme.
The Workbook
The workbook is carefully designed to guide the candidate
through the Equalskills programme, and it is written in
simple and straightforward language. It contains both the
learning and exercise elements of the programme. The candidate
is guided through the skills that are needed to perform
the workbook activities. The instruction is clearly outlined
in a step by step fashion and is fully illustrated.
The workbook is both a study aid and assessment document,
and gives the candidate and facilitator the means to check
their understanding of any of the topics. The Equalskills
facilitator helps the candidate work through the workbook,
with the help of one-to-one, or classroom-based training.
On completion of the programme, the final sign off page
is removed and submitted for certification, and the candidate
can keep the content section of the workbook as a reminder
of the skills they have learned.
On-line exercises
As part of the continuous assessment and in conjunction
with the exercises in the workbook, the candidate is required
to carry out some on-line web based exercises. The exercises
are directly related to what the candidate is learning in
Equalskills. These again can be undertaken at the candidate’s
own pace, under the direction and supervision of the facilitator.
Computer based training
Equalskills candidates have access to a fully interactive
CBT system. This is downloaded by the facilitator from the
Equalskills website. It presents the Equalskills material
in an attractive, user-friendly manner, and gives the candidate
the opportunity to practice and learn in a hands-on environment,
at their own pace.
