The HITS syllabus is divided into 3 units and 8 modules

• Information Management in Healthcare
• IT Systems in Healthcare

Unit 1 IT Basics in Healthcare has 2 modules:
Computer Hardware and Software in Healthcare
Networks and Health Informatics

Unit 2 Information Management in Healthcare has 3 modules:
Understanding Data, Information and Knowledge
Protecting Healthcare Information
Electronic Record Keeping in Healthcare

Unit 3 IT Systems in Healthcare has 3 modules:
Administrative Information Systems
Clinical Information Systems
Decision Support Systems

The HITS course content focuses on the role of IT in healthcare and provides basic information on health informatics. It is not highly technical but gives sufficient information to understand the hardware and software found in a healthcare environment. HITS highlights the contribution of health informatics to administrative and clinical best practice.
