HITS is a self-study course which requires approximately 20 hours study time. The course is delivered online (broadband connection is not required, standard dial-up access is sufficient). Candidates receive a personal username and password to access the course materials.
HITS is broken into 8 modules and each one comes with a number of related study aids. “Goals” lists the learning objectives and keywords of the module. “Summary” sums up its important concepts and “Glossary” lists definitions of the terms and acronyms that have appeared in the module. Each module also includes a “Quiz” section, which includes a short test on the contents of the module.
If desired the syllabus can be downloaded and a hard copy printed. HITS offers a suggested further reading list for those candidates who wish to learn more about health informatics. A complete sample test is also available.
The 45 minute supervised test takes place in the candidate’s HITS Test Centre. The test is delivered online and comprises 40 knowledge-based multi-choice questions. The pass mark is 75%. Once the candidate submits their answers the results are available on screen immediately. A HITS Certificate is awarded to successful candidates by ICS SKILLS. Each candidate has three attempts at the test.
